Meet the Deni Field Air team.
Field Air is an agricultural air service company which started in 1963 in Ballarat and opened their Deniliquin office in 1972. Since then they have opened another base in Finley during the early 90’s and remote bases in Jerilderie, Hay and Sea Lake. Since the opening of the bases field Air have been at the top of the game bringing GPS and also the creator of the Bickley boom that is used by all aerial companies in the region for distribution of rice chemicals.
Deniliquin employs 1 full time pilot 1 contract pilot 1 full time loader driver and operations manager, in Finley we have 1 full time pilot 1 contract pilot 1 full time loader driver and operations manager.
Contract staff are also employed as needed, for example in a good season such as 2012 / 2013 when farmers had access to water Field Air’s Deniliquin base sowed close to 10,000 ha of rice (or in the old language around 1600 bags). This provided work for 4 aircraft, 4 pilots and around 5 loader drivers and other support staff of a period of 4 to 5 months.
Last year there was less water available for production and Field Air sowed under 5,000 ha, as a result less contract pilots, aircraft and loader drivers.
Reducing water available for productive use not only impacts the farmers who rely on water for their livelihood, it impacts on many businesses in rural communities and employment opportunities are affected.
